The collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium in Surfside at 1:22 a.m. on June 24, 2021, was one of the most difficult events the Herald’s visuals staff has had to cover.

Although they are experienced at covering all types of news, such as hurricanes or COVID-19 over the last couple of years, the scope and tragedy involved in telling and showing the Surfside story made it especially difficult professionally but especially emotionally.
