Three women die after Lexus plows through guardrail, slams into tree on Dolphin Expressway
Three women died and two men were hospitalized after their out-of-control car rammed an SUV, plowed through a guardrail and slammed into a tree on the Dolphin Expressway late Saturday night, according to authorities.
Around 11:20 p.m., a Lexus sedan was heading westbound in the area of Northwest 107th Avenue when it collided into an SUV, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Alejandro Camacho said Sunday in an email.
After the initial crash, he said the driver of the Lexus lost control of the vehicle, smashing through the median guardrail and slamming into a tree.
Of the five people in the Lexus, two women died at the scene and a third was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center where she later died, he said. Two men were sent to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities didn’t give details about the SUV nor its occupants.
The highway was shut down for about six hours during the investigation, reopening early Sunday morning.
