Planning to swim off Miami Beach or Fort Lauderdale area sands Sunday? There’s a warning

The rip current risk for beaches up and down South Florida’s coastlines, including the sands of Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale, will be at “high” throughout Sunday.

That’s according to the National Weather Service, which issued a high rip current warning that will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday.

“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” the NWS warns. “Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
