Is Dadeland Mall open? Or Publix? Garbage pickup? What’s running and when on New Year’s
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day are a little trickier than their Christmas cousins when it comes to what’s open, what’s closed, what’s working and what’s not.
But, that’s why we’re here, to clear things up so neither Friday nor Saturday turns into another tricky day for you.
Chain Supermarkets
Publix: All stores open at their regular time and close 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day, stores in Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach counties, along with Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties will open at 7 a.m. All other places, the stores open at their regular hours. Check your Publix for the closing time. But all pharmacies will be closed New Year’s Day.
Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Mas: All Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Más stores will close at 10 p.m. or regular closing hours (whichever is earlier) on New Year’s Eve, and store pharmacies will close at 6 p.m. Stores will be open normal hours on New Year’s Day, and pharmacies will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (or regular Saturday closing time, if earlier).
Sedano’s: Stores close at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Presidente Supermarkets: Normal hours on New Year’s Eve. Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. New Year’s Day.
Aldi: Stores open until 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. All stores closed on New Year’s Day.
Big Lots: Stores open normal hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
The Fresh Market: All stores open at their normal times and close at 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Stores are open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Milam’s Market: Stores open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (and Grove Liquors is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.) on New Year’s Eve. All stores open normal hours on New Year’s Day.
Price Choice: Call your location of choice, but they’ll be open.
Trader Joe’s: Stores close at 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. All stores closed on New Year’s Day.
Whole Foods Market: Stores open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Day.
Big box
BJ’s Wholesale: All stores open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. for senior citizens, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for senior citizens.
Costco: Most stores open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. All stores closed New Year’s Day.
Target: Most stores open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Walmart: All stores open normal hours.
Pharmacy chains
CVS/Navarro: Stores will be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Check your location for hours.
Walgreens: Store hours vary on New Year’s Eve, with most Walgreens’ pharmacies open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. On New Year’s Day, stores will be open, but only a few pharmacies will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shopping Malls
Aventura Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Coral Square: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Dadeland Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Dolphin Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
The Falls: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Florida Keys Outlet Marketplace: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Miami International Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Sawgrass Mills: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Westfield Broward Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Westland Mall: Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Mass transit
Miami-Dade: Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover will be operating on their regular weekday schedules on New Year’s Eve. On New Year’s Day, Metrobus will operate on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail and Metromover will be operating on the regular weekend schedule.
For the 5 1/2 hours between 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 2 a.m. New Year’s Day, Metrorail will run every 30 minutes. The last northbound and southbound trains will leave Government Center Station at 2 a.m. Metromover will run until 2 a.m. New Year’s Day. Metrorail station parking facilities will be open until 3 a.m. New Year’s Day.
All Miami-Dade County offices, including transit administrative offices, will be closed on New Year’s Eve. Although STS offices will be closed, STS customers can still call the STS reservation number at 305-871-1111 to reserve or cancel an STS trip.
Broward: Broward County Transit will operate on a weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve and a Sunday/holiday schedule on New Year’s Day. Customer service will be available on New Year’s Eve to provide trip-planning assistance at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) for fixed and paratransit routes from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Customer service staff will be available from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on New Year’s Eve at the BCT Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Lauderhill Transit Center, and the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach.
Tri-Rail: New Year’s Eve, normal service. New Year’s Day, service will run on a weekend/holiday schedule.
Garbage
Miami: Normal garbage pickup on New Year’s Eve.
Miami-Dade: Regular garbage and recycling pickup on New Year’s Eve.
Fort Lauderdale: Regular service on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Broward County: Regular service on New Year’s Day.
For other municipalities, check with your waste management provider.
U.S. Postal Service
Mail will be delivered to homes and collected from the blue street boxes on New Year’s Eve. Check your favorite post office branch for its New Year’s Eve hours. Post office branches will be closed and mail will not be delivered New Year’s Day. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered on New Year’s Day.
Bank branches
Some will have special, shortened hours on New Year’s Eve, as they did on Christmas Eve. They’ll be closed on New Year’s Day.
Courts, county offices, schools
Miami-Dade: Closed Friday and Saturday.
Broward: Closed Friday and Saturday.
Libraries
Miami-Dade: Closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, but you can go to the eBooks and eAudioBooks page.
Broward: Open New Year’s Eve, closed New Year’s Day, but the online catalog is always open.
