Publix or CVS open? What about malls? Here’s what’s closed on Christmas Day

Things always get a little strange when Christmas Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday because the official day off for various government offices then moves to Friday or Monday — while the retail world continues operating like it usually does.

With that, here’s when stores and services will close for the holiday and which ones are open when you realize you still need more celery or Sazon Completa.

Chain Supermarkets

Publix: All stores open at their regular time and close 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores and pharmacies closed Christmas Day.

Winn-Dixie and Fresco Y Mas: All Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Más stores will close at 9 p.m. Christmas Eve and store pharmacies will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Stores and pharmacies will be closed Christmas Day.

Sedano’s: All stores open until 10 p.m. on Thursday, 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and 6 p.m. on Christmas Day.

Presidente Supermarkets: Christmas Eve, open 7 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. and Christmas Day, open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Aldi: Stores open until 4 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed on Christmas Day.

Big Lots: Most stores open until 10 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

The Fresh Market: All stores open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day.

Milam’s Market: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Grove Liquors open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

Price Choice: Call your location of choice. Some are open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Day.

Trader Joe’s: Stores close at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

Whole Foods Market: Most stores open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

Big box

BJ’s Wholesale: All stores open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and closed Christmas Day.

Costco: Most stores open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

Target: Most stores open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores closed Christmas Day.

Walmart: Stores close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. All stores and pharmacies closed Christmas Day.

Mass transit

Miami-Dade: Metrorail, Metromover and Metrobus will operate a regular weekday schedule on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, Metrorail and Metromover will operate on a weekend schedule and Metrobus will be on a Sunday schedule. On Friday, all three will operate on a weekday schedule. All DTPW administrative offices will be closed Friday.

Broward: Broward County Transit will operate on a weekday schedule on Christmas Eve and a Sunday/holiday schedule on Christmas Day. Customer Service will be available on Christmas Eve to provide trip-planning assistance at 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) for fixed and paratransit routes from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Customer service staff will be available from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve at the BCT Main Terminal in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Lauderhill Transit Center, and the Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach.

Tri-Rail: Christmas Day, service will run on a weekend/holiday schedule.

Garbage

Miami: Christmas Day is one of the two days of the year — along with Martin Luther King Day — that Miami Solid Waste operations are closed.

Miami-Dade: No garbage or bulk pickup on Friday, but recycling will be picked up as usual. All facilities closed on Christmas Day.

Fort Lauderdale: None on Christmas Day. Palm frond collections on Las Olas Isles on Christmas Eve.

Broward County: None on Christmas Day.

Other municipalities, check with your waste management provider.

U.S. Postal Service

Mail will be delivered and collected from the blue street boxes on Christmas Eve. Check your favorite post office branch for its Christmas Eve hours. Post office branches will be closed Christmas Day. Only Priority Mail Express will be delivered.

Courts, county offices, schools

Miami-Dade: Closed Friday and Saturday.

Broward: Closed Friday and Saturday.

Libraries

Miami-Dade: Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but you can go to the eBooks and eAudioBooks page.

Broward: Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but the online catalog is always open.
