Woman shot dead in front of home near Overtown identified

Miami police on Tuesday identified a woman who died the night before after she was shot several times while sitting on a car outside her home.

According to police, Monique Manley, 29, was sitting on a vehicle in front of 1955 NW Second Ct. talking to a friend when a another car drove up. Two people exited the car and began shooting, police said.

“She was just sitting there talking to a friend and somebody comes up and shoots her,” said Spokeswoman Frederica Burden. “She was a victim of something she didn’t see coming and at this point we don’t know why.”

Manley was hit several times and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she died.

“At this time we are asking the public to give us any information of what they saw,” Burden said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Miami Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 305-603-6350 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471- TIPS (8477).
