Palmetto Expressway reopens after single-car crash during rush hour
Commuters on the Palmetto Expressway came to a dead stop during the afternoon rush hour Wednesday after the driver of a car lost control and crashed into a wall, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash, on the southbound lanes of the expressway at Northwest 74th Street, temporarily halted traffic in both directions as a rescue helicopter landed. The crash happened after 5 p.m.
The driver was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, but the injuries were considered non-life-threatening, according to FHP Spokesman Joe Sanchez.
By 6 p.m., northbound traffic was moving, but southbound remained closed. It later reopened.
