Jewish Community Services delivers holiday food baskets to seniors for Rosh Hashanah

With the start of the Jewish High Holidays later this week, more than 500 volunteers delivered food to senior citizens on Sunday.

Jewish Community Services of South Florida runs the annual distribution of more than 500 gift baskets to Holocaust survivors and older people who can’t leave their homes.

Rosh Hashanah begins Friday night after sundown, and traditionally includes a festive meal with sweet ingredients such as apples and honey.

“Although this year’s Milk & Honey Event will be somewhat different due to social distancing, the spirit of caring and community is stronger than ever,” said President and CEO Miriam Singer. “Our traditions and rituals are a reminder that we are a community — strong and vibrant, diverse and unique.”

Because of the pandemic, volunteers picked up pre-assembled holiday baskets to make door-to-door deliveries.
