Miami-Dade County will close beaches, parks and more as Hurricane Isaias nears

In preparation for Hurricane Isaias, which is forecast to pass South Florida as a Category 1, Miami-Dade County will be closing beaches, parks and more.

On Thursday night, Miami-Dade County announced that all facilities operated by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department will close by 8 p.m. Friday.

These facilities include county beaches, marinas, golf courses, Deering Estate and over 270 parks. No reopening date has been set.

On Sunday, the county will evaluate the possibility of reopening.

South Florida was put under a tropical storm watch Thursday afternoon and the center of Isaias is forecast to be near the Central Bahamas on Friday night and move near or over the Northwestern Bahamas and near South Florida on Saturday as a Category 1 hurricane.

The impact on South Florida is still up in the air and forecasters say there is a “higher than usual amount of uncertainty in the intensity forecast.”

Tropical Storm Isaias is now predicted to strengthen into a hurricane on Saturday.
