Planning on a pool party this holiday weekend? There are things you need to know
A swim in a local pool is a good substitute for a weekend beach trip — but only if you live or are staying where the pool is.
A Miami-Dade County order limits the use of pools Friday through Monday. Hotel and motel pools will only be open to only guests, and community pools are limited to those who live at the property.
That means no holiday pool parties.
“Various municipalities have expressed concern over parties and gatherings in hotels over the Fourth of July holiday, which could drive the spread of COVID-19,” reads the Miami-Dade emergency order.
Pools are allowed to be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the areas can be at 50% capacity.
Although the order doesn’t cover private pools such as the one in your backyard, leaders are urging people not to have parties at home either.
Pinecrest Mayor Joseph Corradino called private house parties his city’s “largest problem” in a statement to the community, pleading residents to limit their social interactions.
The pool regulations follow the holiday weekend shutdown of beaches in Miami-Dade, Broward and the Keys as leaders try to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Many July 4 fireworks shows and festivals were canceled or turned remote.
When hotels reopened in early June, some expected July 4 weekend to bring more tourism during an otherwise slow travel season. But Florida now has 158,997 confirmed cases and 3,550 deaths, which may prove otherwise.
