Miami Beach’s Flamingo Park is closed, but this 6-foot python flouted the law

Apparently the python didn’t get the memo.

Miami Beach’s Flamingo Park is closed because of coronavirus concerns, so being anywhere in the park is a violation of the law. But the snake wasn’t concerned about social distancing.

The 6-foot python was spotted near the park’s 11th street entrance by a ranger around 1:30 p.m. Friday, police spokesman Eddie Rodriguez said.

The ranger called for police assistance and the officers rounded it up and placed it in the storage container of an ATV. It got a ride to the police station and was later handed over to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

“We get dressed each day never knowing what the day is going to bring,” said Rodriguez. “The past few weeks have been incredibly stressful for our officers and the country as a whole, so being able to rescue a snake is a welcome change in what’s become our day to day activities.”
