Zoo Miami shares video of baby koala Hope — to ‘give some hope during tough times’
What better way to end a tough week than an animal video?
On Friday, Zoo Miami’s Ron Magill shared footage of the zoo’s baby koala named Hope and his mother Rinny. Because koalas typically sleep about 18 hours each day, the video is titled, “A Day in the Life of Hope the Koala.”
The baby boy — who was born in May, but didn’t come out of his mother’s pouch until January — was named Hope to help people cope during the Australian wildfires.
Magill said with everyone dealing with the impact of the coronavirus, he put the video together to “give some hope during tough times.”
Hope was the first koala to be born at the zoo in 20 years.
“The intention was that naming this baby koala Hope would be an inspiration to all of those working to save countless animals, including koalas that were burned and displaced, and seen in so many heart-wrenching videos,” Magill said.
“Though Hope was named initially because of the situation in Australia, it is our wish now that he can provide a little bit of hope to the present situation being faced around the world and perhaps bring a smile to our faces amid all of the stress.”
