‘This is gonna go really bad’: Rapper arrested after posting fliers in Wynwood
Landon Kinchelow wanted to get some publicity for his concert, and it backfired badly, the Miami New Times first reported.
The rapper, whose stage name is Geovonniex, was arrested Thursday evening after officers saw him posting fliers for his show at the Spot Wynwood the following night.
According to a Miami police report, an officer on patrol observed “the defendant placing a paper advertisement with affixed adhesive tape on a private property” at 2399 NW Second Ave. The private property is lifestyle store Aviator Nation. Damage to the outside of the store was estimated at $100, the report said.
The cop asked the 24-year-old hip-hopper if he was authorized to be putting up his ads, and, according to a Miami police complaint, said he would take them down. After he took down the pamphlets, Geovonniex started to walk away.
“I then advised the defendant that he could not walk away due to my self conducting an investigation and asked him for identification.” Kinchelow replied that he had no ID on him and began to again walk away. The officer advised Geovonniex that he would be detained.
“I advised the defendant to turn around and place his hands behind his back as his behavior was starting to get more aggressive,” the affidavit said.
After being cuffed, Kinchelow tensed his arms, wrote the officer.
In video taken by an onlooker, the entertainer is up against the wall, asking repeatedly, “Why am I being detained?”
The officer replies, “You’re being very aggressive right now.”
Then Geovonniex cries, “You’ve got your hands on me!”
“This is gonna go really bad if you don’t turn around,” says the officer.
The “On My Own” singer eventually complied and was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Shortly after his release after posting $1,000 bond, the Miami Beach resident spoke out on social media about the incident, saying he was unfairly targeted.
Next to a picture of his mugshot, he wrote, “Yesterday I got arrested unlawfully for putting up flyer to ensure that the show TONIGHT will be a SUCCESS. Not to mention that I had others with me putting up flyers and Wynwood is known for artistic expression and promotion. I felt because of my skin color I was singled out. But even tho I spent 12 hours in jail THE SHOW MUST GO ON!”
