One man dead, another critical after a double shooting near Wynwood gastropub
A man was killed and another critically injured in a shooting Friday afternoon near a popular Wynwood eatery, Miami police said.
The shooting near the Kush gastropub at 2003 N. Miami Ave. attracted a large police presence to the art-inspired neighborhood that has become a major tourist attraction. Downtown streets were clogged, causing a near standstill for traffic during the afternoon rush hour.
Making it more difficult to get in and out of the bustling neighborhood just north of downtown and west of Biscayne Boulevard, the search for the shooter blocked roadways and caused the Brightline train service to come to a halt.
Police on foot and on bikes shut down roads to form a perimeter from Northwest Second Avenue to Northeast Miami Court and 18th to 22nd streets. There, they searched for clues, talked to witnesses and gathered evidence as helicopters hovered overhead. The victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where one of them later died.
By late afternoon police had not identified the shooter, nor said whether it was a man or a woman. They had also yet to determine whether the gunman was on foot or in a car. Police offered no motive for the shooting.
Nearby iPrep Academy was briefly placed on lockdown.
