A Miami-Dade officer crashed into a motorcycle, police say, and 2 riders were thrown

A Miami-Dade police officer crashed into a motorcycle on Thursday in Westview, launching two people off the bike, police said. One of the riders was killed.

Just after 6:40 p.m., the officer was driving down Northwest 22nd Avenue. He tried to make a left turn at Northwest 127th Street when he hit the motorcycle with two people, police said.

The crash threw the two onto the road. They were taken to the hospital in serious condition. The officer was not hurt.

The motorcycle driver later died at the hospital, police said.

Police did not say if the officer will face discipline. The crash is under investigation.
