Police: Man opens fire on police officers in NW Miami-Dade, takes off in car with 2 others
Miami-Dade Police detectives are looking for a man who they say began shooting at an unmarked police car Tuesday after the two officers inside tried to talk to him.
According to police, Robbery Intervention Detail officers were patrolling the area of Northwest 71st Street at 15th Avenue when they spotted a man “outside acting as a lookout in a known high drug traffic area.”
Police say the man began shooting and the officers drove to safety southbound on Northwest 14th Place.
Witnesses told police they saw three men take off in an older model car with red doors.
Miami-Dade police identified the shooter as 19-year-old Jonathon Gilbert of 1905 NW 58th St. They believe he is driving a brown Chevrolet Malibu or Impala.
