Authorities on Saturday evening were looking for whoever is responsible for setting five simultaneous fires in a South Miami-Dade park.
The flames engulfed 200 acres at the county-owned Larry and Penny Thompson Park, 12451 SW 184th St, causing the evacuations of several pavilions and campers staying on the property in RVs. Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue crews had so far kept the flames from reaching nearby homes and Zoo Miami.
The fires set on Saturday came the week after several similar blazes were set in the same park, said Scott Peterich, a spokesman for the Florida Forest Service.
“We definitely have someone in the area that’s setting fires,” Peterich said on Saturday.
