Here’s how the relocation of a Florida Turnpike southbound exit ramp will impact your commute

FDOT

All that infernal construction was bound to alter your drive south on Florida’s Turnpike.

That day is here, says the Florida Department of Transportation.

If you’re used to taking the southbound exit ramp to Coral Reef Drive/Southwest 152nd Street and Southwest 117th Avenue — formerly known as Exit 16 — starting Tuesday you’ll have to drive about one mile north of its current location. The exit ramp is now named Exit 18.

That’s what those overhead signs are about. You’re not going to see signs for Exit 16 along southbound Florida’s Turnpike.

If you miss the new exit ramp, you have to continue south on Florida’s Turnpike and exit at Eureka Drive (Exit 13) to turn around and travel north on the Turnpike to access Coral Reef Drive/Southwest 152nd Street (Exit 16).

Drivers on southbound State Road 874/Don Shula Expressway that want to exit to Coral Reef Drive/Southwest 152nd Street must exit at the designated exit from SR 874 to Coral Reef Drive/Southwest 152nd Street.

Motorists on southbound SR 874 will no longer be able to access Coral Reef Drive/Southwest 152nd Street from Florida’s Turnpike.

The road work is “part of an ongoing widening project on Florida’s Turnpike between Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street and Killian Parkway/Southwest 104th Street,” the transportation department says.
