Here’s what will be open and what will be closed on Monday after Veterans Day
Sunday, Nov. 11, is the actual national holiday Veterans Day. But, as is the case when national holidays fall on the weekend, many businesses and institutions observe them on the weekday immediately before or after.
Here’s what’s open and closed Monday.
No mail on Veterans Day and post offices will be closed. UPS is proving normal service. So is FedEx, except for FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx SmartPost.
Trash pickup
Miami-Dade County, Miami, Miami Beach and Coral Gables are collecting garbage as normal.
Mass transit
▪ Miami-Dade Transit’s Metrobus, Metrorail and Metromover will run as normal Monday except for the Route 95 Express bus service out of the Golden Glades. Between the normally scheduled first trip in the morning and last trip in the afternoon, it will run every 10 to 15 minutes between the Golden Glades Park & Ride station and downtown Miami.
▪ Broward County Transit will operate on a normal weekday schedule except the 95 Express Route 106 to Miramar Regional Park and Route 109 to Ansin Sports Complex Park and Ride. The parks will be open only to 95 Express customers during the morning and afternoon service hours. And you can’t get to your car at Miramar Regional Park until 4:11 p.m. and at Ansin Sports Complex until 4:31 p.m.
▪ Tri-Rail will be running on its weekend schedule.
Schools
Public schools in Miami-Dade and Broward counties are closed. Some private schools are open.
Banks, stock markets and bond markets
Banks are closed. The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ both will be trading.
Government offices and courts
On a federal, state and county level, they’ll be closed.
Private businesses
Check with indivudial businesses.
Supermarkets and retail stores
Most are open. And they might use Veterans Day or the not-too-distant start of the holiday shopping season as a launch point for special bargains.
