A boat crashed into a lighthouse tower on Biscayne Bay early Saturday morning, sending two 18-year-olds to the hospital.
According to Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll, a 20-to-30-foot boat slammed into the tower just three miles out from Elliot Key around 5:30 a.m.
The Coast Guard found one man unconscious and the other with serious facial injuries. Soon after, the victims were taken to Black Point Marina, where they were treated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and taken to Kendall Regional Hospital.

“The boat went through the frame of the light tower,” Carroll said, “and then came to rest with the front end of the boat in the water and the back part of the boat in the air.
“The impact obviously threw both of them around in the boat, but they were not thrown in the water. Somehow, they were able to locate their radios and call for help.”
Officials say it is unclear what caused the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
