MDX launches new traffic pattern for Miami Drivers at Dolphin Expressway and Northwest 27th Avenue
So you’ve survived the first few days of the new Divergent Diamond Interchange as Northwest 27th Avenue passes underneath State Road 836.
You know you’ve still got one more “drive on the wrong side” traffic pattern to master later this fall at Northwest 57th Avenue.
But the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority has another traffic headache coming for you over the next few weeks. Starting from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, eastbound State Road 836/Dolphin Expressway will be shut down from Northwest 57th Avenue to just east of Northwest 45th Avenue.
The periodic closures at various stretches will continue until Aug. 26.
But these closures are not related to the opening of the second DDI, says MDX spokeswoman Yvette Holt.
“MDX is adding a lane on the expressway. These closures are to pour the concrete barrier wall on the outside of the new bridge lane,” Holt said. “The median barrier wall is the beginning of construction to reinforce the inside shoulder of the expressway to allow for an express buss service. Once complete, MDX will run express bus service from the Dolphin Station Park and Ride to downtown Miami.”
On Wednesday, the highway agency released a series of infographics to alert motorists to the various dates and detours.
