A Miami-Dade police officer was airlifted to the hospital late Tuesday night after being shot, according to the department.
The shooting happened sometime after 11 p.m. in the area of W 68th St. and 2nd Court in Hialeah. Police said it appeared that, "the officer may have been grazed by the bullet."
The unidentified offer was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. According to a tweet from the deparment, "The officer is alert and is currently being treated." No other information was immediately available.
The scene of the shooting is still active as of midnight, and police have set up a perimeter in an attempt to apprehend the suspect.
