Miami-Dade police looking for hit-and-run driver in death of man with cerebral palsy

Miami-Dade police are looking for the driver of a dark car who slammed into a man with cerebral palsy, killing him on the spot, and then took off.

Rudy Aponte, 48, was crossing Northwest 32nd Avenue at 46th Street Saturday night at about 11 after going to a nearby market when he was hit.

Milagros Ortiz, who was with Aponte at the time of the crash, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that they were at Mr. Mike's Supermarket, buying food for a party.

“What happened here was a crime,’’ Ortiz, who had been friends with Aponte for seven years, told the station. “My friend was brutally murdered and killed by somebody that wasn’t responsible at the time.’’

Miami-Dade Police Department have been passing out fliers in hopes of locating the car and driver.
