Miami-Dade police treated Miami Heat superstar LeBron James like a king Friday on his way to the Justin Timberlake and Jay Z concert, giving him a wrong-way escort to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic headed to Sun Life Stadium.
Now, an officer is in hot water for violating departmental policy.
A grateful James unwittingly contributed to the officer’s troubles by posting a clip of the good deed to his roughly 3.5 million followers on Instagram with the caption: “They treat us so well! Needed it cause traffic was nuts!!”
“Light police escort on the wrong side of the street,” said James of the eight-block ride, which had him and his police escort driving opposite oncoming traffic. “Headed to the big homie concert, JT. Holla!”

On Monday, Miami-Dade police launched an investigation into the officer who gave King James and his fiancée, Savannah Brinson, the royal treatment.
The unidentified officer, part of an off-duty team working at Sun Life, could face disciplinary action, officials said.
It all began Friday as the 8 p.m. concert was about to start. A call came over the police radio asking an officer to meet James’ vehicle on Northwest 27th Avenue to escort him to the stadium.
In a news release Monday, the department said:
“It has been brought to our attention that a video was posted on the Internet by LeBron James, a professional basketball player, where it shows him being escorted onto the property of Sun Life Stadium for a concert . . . His was not a scheduled escort and although all safety precautions were taken, the department has identified these actions as violating department policies.”
James could not immediately be reached for comment, and has not posted on his Twitter or Instagram accounts since Saturday.
Escorting James on the wrong side of the road is the main violation, but Miami-Dade police said they also were investigating whether other guidelines were violated.
Some of James’s Instagram followers were critical of the star player getting exclusive treatment.
“You’d think someone in his position would have a bit more common sense,” said Instagram user iamelless.
Others were more sympathetic.
“You play like a king, you get treated like a king,” said user Vagif Ibrahim.
