Traffic Watch: Express lane construction on State Road 826 will cause lane and exit ramp closures

Road work will hinder commuters this week on the several key roads including the Gratigny Parway, the Palmetto, Don Shula and Airpower Expressways and Florida’s Turnpike.

Workers building express lanes on State Road 826, the Palmetto Expressway, will shift traffic to a new entrance ramp from the southbound Palmetto to the eastbound Gratigny Parkway. As a result, there will be continuous lane closures from Friday at 11 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m. The closures include all eastbound lanes on the Gratigny at the Palmetto interchange; and the exit ramp from southbound Palmetto to NW 138th Street from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, the West Flagler Street ramp to southbound Palmetto will closed Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday so workers can lay asphalt.

On the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike, one lane on the northbound or southbound frontage road between SW 152nd Street and SW 117th Avenue will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday.

The exit ramp from westbound State Road 112, the Airport Expressway, to NW 36th Street will be closed for bridge and other work through Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night.

The exit to SW 152nd Street from State Road 874, the Don Shula Expressway, will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each time through Thursday.

All travel lanes on westbound NW 12th Street between Milam Dairy Road and NW 82nd Avenue will be closed Thursday and again Sunday through April 23 from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each time so workers can remove an overhead bridge.
