After investigating a “possible explosive alert” and evacuating one parking garage Thursday afternoon, Florida International University police officials said there are no longer any threats.

At around 4:52 p.m., the university’s main campus in West Miami-Dade requested assistance from Miami-Dade police’s bomb squad. About an hour later, FIU officials tweeted that there were no longer any safety concerns.

Police ordered students to evacuate the Blue Garage at 10880 SW 16th St. A school spokeswoman said no one would be able to retrieve their cars.

It was not immediately known what forced the closing.

Alex Villanueva, 26, was among the dozens of frustrated people waiting to be allowed to go to his car.

Villanueva, on campus since early afternoon, said he was in a hurry to his mom's birthday dinner.

"Homemade dinner, cake, presents, all of that," he said.

This breaking story will be updated when more information becomes available.
