Seven men accused of nine armed pawn shop robberies and one death over three counties

The suspects in January’s Little Havana pawn shop robbery that resulted in the fatal shooting of a 65-year-old customer won’t face murder charges.

Instead, they’re three of the seven Miami residents staring at a total of 21 counts of robbery and weapons charges in federal court from nine armed robberies of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach pawn shops between Nov. 15, 2016 and June 20, 2017.

Smack in the middle of those nine, four before and four after, was the Jan. 5 robbery of a Value Pawn at 717 SW 17th Ave. in Miami. While one of the three robbers smashed a display case, Miami police said, another robber shot 65-year-old Ricardo Soler Reyes. Jonathan Cruz, 31; Eric Melendez, 26; and 19-year-old Trayvon Thomas have been charged with causing the death of a person in the course of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
