Report: Football player involved in sexual assault case at FIU

A sexual assault reported over the weekend at Florida International University involved a football player in a dorm room, according to reports.

The FIU athletic department would not say if the player had been suspended while the investigation is ongoing, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS4.

“That is shocking because I never expected to hear something like that on this campus,” student Stephanie Martinez said.

The report to university police was made Saturday night at the main campus in West Miami-Dade, 11200 SW Eighth St. No arrests were made and apparently the two people involved knew one another.

FIU did not release details but encouraged students to be aware of their surroundings on campus and avoid poorly lit areas.
