The mother of Grammy-award winning Miami singer Gloria Estefan died Tuesday night, she announced on Instagram.

“Tonight at 8:19 pm we lost my beloved mother, the inimitable Gloria Fajardo,” Estefan wrote on the site. “She went peacefully surrounded by her daughters, grandchildren, son-in-laws, niece, three loving caregivers, extended family and her most trusted friends.”

Estefan, whose parents fled with her from Cuba to the United States after the Cuban Revolution, earned international acclaim for her 1985 single “Conga” and has sold hundreds of millions of records since.

She had been sharing several photos of her mother in the last several months updating her followers on her health.

Her mother’s time of death, Estefan wrote, also coincided with the time her own mother had passed away 32 years prior.

“She wanted to make sure that we got the message that she was with our beloved grandmother, Abuela Consuelo and my loving father, Jose Manuel,” Estefan wrote. “I will miss her every moment of every day and I thank her for being the incredible mother, woman and role model that she was to so many people.”
