Driver killed after hitting median, light pole and guardrail into canal

A man was killed after he crashed while exiting State Road 836, hit a light pole and went into the canal on 137th Avenue.

Jorge Jimenez-Rodriguez, 25, was driving his 2013 Dodge Challenger westbound on SR 836 about 9:45 a.m. when he lost control of the car at a curb while approaching the Northwest 137th Avenue exit ramp.

The car “rotated clockwise” and climbed over the median, skidded across the sidewalk and grass shoulder until the right front tire flew off and hit a light pole, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The rim also hit the light pole, which cracked and collapsed.

The car continued across the sidewalk onto the ramp, the southbound lanes and then into the northbound lanes of Northwest 137th Avenue.

The car came to a stop after it crashed into the guardrail and flipped over into the canal.
