A man was arrested and charged on Wednesday with child neglect after a 22-month-old girl he was babysitting was bitten by his dog Friday, resulting in lacerations and a bone fracture, police said.
Eddson Aldenis Berrios, 39, did not provide proper care, Miami police said. He instead attended to the wounds at home before contacting the girl’s mother hours later and going to the hospital.
Police said Berrios also lied to police about what happened. He originally said the child had been bitten by a stray dog at a park near his home. Later he admitted it was his own dog and that it happened at his house.
Berrios was charged with child neglect and false reports to law enforcement authorities.
