Monday is deadline to file for homestead exemption

Miami-Dade property owners must file for a homestead exemption by Monday, March 2nd.

The exemption allows Florida homeowners to claim a property tax break of up to $50,000 on their primary residence. Homeowners who have received the exemption in the past automatically receive the exemption each year.

Consumers can apply online at http://www.miamidade.gov/pa/ until 11:59 pm on Monday, or apply by mail postmarked no later than Monday. They can also file in person until 5:00 pm Monday at the offices of the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser in downtown Miami or in Cutler Bay.
