The Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Miami man for his alleged involvement in at least three bank robberies.

Jose Tamayo, 50, was arrested Friday evening in Miami by the FBI’s South Florida Violent Crime Task Force, the agency said. Among the banks he is accused of robbing is Capital Bank at 1390 South Dixie Hwy. in Coral Gables on Friday. The robbery caused traffic to be backed up along the main thoroughfare.

Tamayo also is accused of twice robbing a TD Bank at 9005 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami Shores on Aug. 13 and Sept. 4. He also attempted on Sept. 6 to rob another TD Bank at 11626 Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Hallandale.

The second individual in the robberies is still at large and investigators continue to urge anyone who may have information as to the identity of that robber to call the FBI at 754-703-2000 or Crimestoppers.

Tamayo is in federal custody and facing federal charges. His initial appearance is expected to be Monday in federal court in Miami.
