Facebook album: LGBT activists attend HRC Art for Equality during Miami Art Week
Hundreds of activists and allies came to White Porch Gallery at R House Wynwood on Tuesday to raise money for Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest LGBT rights group.
South Florida HRC supporters from throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties hosted the event, called HRC Art for Equality @ Art Basel - Miami 2015.
“Art for Equality will feature fun, finger food, drinks, and a DJ along with a silent auction featuring some of the most talented domestic and international LGBT and LGBT-allied artists,” according to the event’s Facebook page.
White Porch Gallery owner Tom Shirk and partner Felipe Lara are longtime HRC supporters.
“We’ve made great strides this year for marriage equality, but we’re nowhere near done,” Shirk said. “With the upcoming elections and everything that’s happening politically, we have to stay on top and organizations like HRC are ways to mobilize ... to not only protect the progress we’ve made but also get us across the finish line.”
