Missing boaters rescued off Key West
U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued four boaters Wednesday, a day after they were supposed to return from a snorkeling trip.
Concerned family members reported the group “overdue” after they didn't return Tuesday.
At 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, a Coast Guard plane spotted a boat with David Thompson, 48, Adam Kelley, 28, Joshua Thompson, 15, and Evan Thompson, 11, 40 miles northwest of Key West.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Key West met the boat and the four boaters were taken to Coast Guard Sector Key West in good condition.
“The important takeaway is this family filed a float plan,” said Cmdr. Clint Prindle, chief of response for Coast Guard Sector Key West in a news release. “They told family members where they were going and when they would be back. When they didn't return, a family member contacted us, and we immediately began our search efforts.”
