A Keys woman was dragged into bushes, beaten and raped while walking to a nearby bar, the Monroe Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The woman, 39, told deputies that she was walking from her Tavernier home at 9 p.m. Sunday when a man emerged from the bushes behind a shopping center.
During the attack, she suffered broken ribs and a broken bone in her face, said Monroe sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Becky Herrin. She was taken to Mariner’s Hospital.
The woman was walking to Dillon’s Irish Pub at mile marker 91 near her home. The attack happened behind the Tavernier Towne Shopping Center.
