Key deer gets stuck in a tree
A Key deer stuck in a tree got a helping hand to freedom.
A woman who called the Monroe Sheriff’s Office told a dispatcher that it looked like the small deer tried to jump through the branches in Big Pine Key and got lodged in them.
A Keys deputy and a state wildlife officer tried to pull the deer out from the jam, but the animal didn’t budge.
More officers came to help. They said they had never seen anything like this before.
In the end, the stressed-out deer helped himself.
“The deer became so agitated at the number of people around, he finally got himself out of his predicament, struggling out of the tree himself,” Keys sheriff’s spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Thursday about the Jan. 11 incident.
