Motorcyclist dies in crash, second bike fatality in four days in the Keys

A 53-year-old Washington, Pa., man died Wednesday in a crash in Tavernier — the Keys' 20th traffic fatality of the year and the second since Sunday.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Joseph Muzak was riding a 2015 Harley Davidson south about 4 p.m. in the inside lane at mile marker 92 of U.S. 1. At the same time, Michael Elam, 44, of Seminole, northwest of St. Petersburg, was heading south in the outside lane in a 2002 Ford van. Troopers said Elam tried to make a left, crossing the inside lane, and the rider didn't have time to brake, striking the van.

Muzak, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Mariners Hospital, where he died hours later. No alcohol was involved in the crash.

Sunday, Wayne Craddock, 55, of Hudsonville, Mich., was riding a Harley south at mile marker 30 on Big Pine Key, lost control, crashed and was tossed from the bike. Troopers didn't say if he was wearing a helmet.
