Keys Coast Guardsman indicted on child porn charges

A federal grand jury has indicted a U.S. Coast Guardsman stationed in the Florida Keys on three child pornography counts, according to court documents unsealed Friday.

Drew Alexander Young, who, according to his indictment, goes by the aliases “Drew Y” and “dyshizz1,” faces up to 70 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Young, 24, was indicted on one count of production of child pornography, one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Gabe Somma could not immediately be reached for comment with questions about Young’s rank, job in the Coast Guard or the number of years of service.

Young pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon during his first court appearance in front of U.S. Magistrate Lurana Snow in the Key West federal courthouse on Simonton Street.

The Aug. 28 indictment states that in February, Young used his cell phone to film sexual acts of a “prepubescent minor and a minor who had not attained 12 years of age.” Young distributed the images on May 10, according to the indictment.

Information on where Young is being held has not been released.

His next court appearance is Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. in Snow’s courtroom for a pretrial detention hearing.
