Coast Guard rescues three from capsized boat off Florida Keys
A U.S. Coast Guard crew rescued three people clinging to an overturned boat in the Florida Keys Sunday evening, the agency said.
The boat, which was anchored, capsized about five miles south of Little Palm Island in the Lower Keys, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
The Coast Guard crew took the three people, who were not injured, to Bahia Honda State Park, which is just south of the Seven Mile Bridge.
The Coast Guard was notified of the distressed boaters around 5:45 p.m. by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The Coast Guard said the boat owner plans to pay to salvage the vessel.
“Our boat crew responded quickly and efficiently to locate all three individuals,” Petty Officer 3rd Class Dalton Henry, the Station Marathon coxswain, said in a statement. “Mariners should always wear a properly fitted life jacket as emergencies can occur with little warning.”
