A Key West woman was struck and killed by a boat while she was scuba diving in the Florida Keys on Friday morning, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Jocelyn Brown, 27, was diving in the water near Big Pine Key, which is about 34 miles north of Key West, around 11 a.m. when the boat hit her, according to the FWC.

Based on preliminary information, Brown had a dive flag displayed, Arielle Callender, an FWC spokesperson, said.

The boat operator stopped, and along with the passengers, recovered Brown from the water and rushed her to shore, Callender said. Brown, however, died from her injuries, according to the FWC.

“The FWC extends its deepest condolences to Brown’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the FWC said in a statement

The incident is under investigation by the FWC, Callender said.
