Four hospitalized after Keys boat crash, Monroe Sheriff’s Office says
Four people were hospitalized after a boat hit a channel marker in the Florida Keys late Friday afternoon, according to Monroe County Fire Rescue.
The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. off Tavernier, an Upper Keys community between Key Largo and Islamorada in unincorporated Monroe, the sheriff’s office said.
After the boat hit the channel marker, the six people on board were ejected from the vessel, said Kristen Livengood, a spokeswoman for Fire Rescue.
“Good Samaritan” boaters in two vessels helped recover the people from the water, Livengood said.
The county’s Trauma Star helicopter ambulance took two people to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami-Dade County, and two people were treated at Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, Livengood said.
Their conditions were not immediately available. Two others refused medical treatment, Livengood said.
The crash is under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which did not immediately respond to the Miami Herald.
