The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two men who were reported overdue from returning from a kayak trip in the Florida Keys on Monday night.

Around 5 p.m., the Coast Guard received a call that the men had not returned from their venture in Florida Bay off Key Largo, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Eric Rodriguez.

Patrol boats from Coast Guard Station Islamorada were launched to search the shoreline, but did not locate them, so an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Miami was sent to the Keys, according to Rodriguez.

The helicopter crew found the first man clinging to a buoy around 6:30 p.m. in Baker’s Cut, about a quarter mile from shore, Rodriguez said.

The crew found the second man about 2,000 yards away in the shallow water flats. Both men were uninjured and did not require medical care.
