Miami man arrested in Florida Keys DUI stop says he’s an ICE agent, deputies say
Florida Keys deputies arrested a Miami man on DUI and child neglect charges Wednesday who identified himself as a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, according to the sheriff’s office.
Monroe County deputies pulled over Scott Thomas Deiseroth, 42, around 3:20 p.m. near mile marker 36.5 on Bahia Honda Key after getting a call from another motorist about a car driving recklessly, swerving and going into oncoming traffic, said sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt.
When deputies got to the car, they found two children, ages 7 and 9, inside. They also smelled a strong odor of booze coming off Deiseroth, Linhardt said, who added the suspect was taken to jail after failing field sobriety exercises.
Deputies notified the Florida Department of Children and Families, and the children were turned over to a family member, Linhardt said.
Deiseroth was booked into Monroe County jail on one count of misdemeanor DUI and two counts of felony child neglect without serious bodily harm. He has since been released. Information on his bond or his legal representation were not immediately available, and Dieseroth could not be reached for comment.
The Miami Herald contacted ICE to verify Deiseroth’s claim of being an agent. A spokesman said he was checking.
