Florida Keys deputies arrest colleague on charges related to time sheet
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested one of its detention deputies on felony charges over statements that he made during an internal-affairs investigation, the agency said Friday.
Deputy Anthony Paniagua, 41, is accused of making false entries in sheriff’s office records about matters related to his time sheet and later made false statements when questioned by investigators about the statements, said agency spokesman Adam Linhardt.
On Friday, Paniagua was being held in a county jail on a $10,000 bond on felony misconduct and perjury charges, according to online sheriff’s office records. Information about his legal representation was not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office placed him on administrative leave pending the outcome of a pre-determination hearing with his supervisors, Linhardt said. Paniagua was hired on Jan. 26, 2015, Linhardt said.
The sheriff’s office did not release the details or scope of the internal-affairs investigation.
“I will continue to keep the public informed of every important event that happens at the Sheriff’s Office — both positive and negative,” Sheriff Rick Ramsay said in a statement.
