A man died in the hospital after being found unconscious in the water while snorkeling off Key West Tuesday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The man, whom the sheriff’s office has not named, was snorkeling with a commercial dive company around 2:27 p.m. when he was found unresponsive, according to the agency.

People on the boat performed CPR on the man as the crew drove the boat back to shore, said sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt. He was pronounced dead at Lower Keys Medical Center, Linhardt said.

Detectives do not suspect foul play, and the cause of death is pending autopsy results, Linhardt said.
