The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a Florida Keys man last seen Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, in a white center console boat in the Islamorada area.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a Florida Keys boater who left the dock Thursday and hasn’t been seen since.

The agency said Friday afternoon that the 74-year-old man departed a dock in Islamorada, in the Upper Keys, in a 20-foot center console boat.

Authorities have not named the boater, but said he rented the vessel in Islamorada and was due back to the dock at 5 p.m.

The rental company reported him overdue to the Coast Guard around 10 p.m., and crews then launched their search, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Eric Rodriguez, a spokesman for the service.

The Coast Guard said in a statement that both boat and air crews are searching for the missing operator and vessel.

Anyone with information about the missing boater is asked to call Coast Guard Sector Key West at 305-292-8727.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
