Traffic alert: Car crash closes Card Sound Road heading in and out of the Florida Keys

Card Sound Road, one of only two arteries drivers have to travel in and out of the Florida Keys, was shut down early Monday afternoon for about two hours because of a car crash with injuries, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened on the Miami-Dade County section of the road, according to a sheriff’s office traffic alert issued at noon.

Details of the crash, including how many were injured and the number of cars involved, were not immediately available.

The sheriff’s office said drivers intending to enter or leave the Keys should use the 18 Mile Stretch of U.S. 1.

Police announced the road was reopened around 2:30 p.m.
