A Memphis woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a car crashed into the golf cart she was driving near Key West, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers did not name the 23-year-old woman who was injured on Monday. Paramedics flew her Jackson South Medical Center in Miami-Dade County, according to the FHP.

The woman was driving the golf cart north on U.S. 1 in the right-hand lane near mile marker 6 when she turned into the path of a northbound sedan in the left lane, the FHP said. Troopers said she might have been trying to make a U-turn.

The driver of the sedan did not have a chance to slow down before hitting the golf cart, according to the FHP.

FHP Sgt. Loren Slick said Wednesday that the woman’s condition remained critical.
