An Oklahoma man was struck by lightning while riding a personal watercraft off the Florida Keys Sunday afternoon, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeremy Greenfield, 38, from Oklahoma City, was in Cow Key Channel, the narrow body of water connecting Stock Island with Key West, when he was struck around 1 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Fire-rescue paramedics took Greenfield to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, where, as of Monday, he was in stable condition, said sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Linhardt.

Personal watercraft are recreational tandem boats more commonly referred to as Jet Skis, the brand name of one popular model built by Kawasaki.
